A Splash of Fall

Summer is coming to an end, with Fall just around the corner.  Many of us are eager and waiting for the leaves to fall and temperatures to cool. With this change of season, comes a variety of new, beautiful colors to add to your garden.  These colors include red, orange, yellow and gold. Let’s take a look at some of our favorite, beautiful flowers to add a splash of color to your garden this Fall.

Let’s start with Chrysanthemums. Better known as Mums. The Mum is a Hardy yet inexpensive find for any gardener!  Mums come in a variety of colors, including yellow, red and bronze; making them a staple flower for Fall. They also come in a variety of shapes and sizes. This makes it easier to put into any garden. It also makes decorating so much fun! Mums do require well drained soil and prefer about six hours of sun daily, however their beauty is well worth the added effort.  Mums are beautiful, but not deer resistant! Be sure to contact Deer Solution to keep these beauties protected from hungry deer.

The more the merrier with Marigolds. Marigolds are an easy,  laid back kind of flower. They are  also easy to grow. A perfect find for the beginning gardener. This flower has abilities to withstand any soil as long as it has access to full sun.  Marigolds also come in an array of colors such as, golden, yellow, orange and red. Perfect for Fall! There is only one catch. Although very beautiful, Marigolds are poisonous to animals. They also give off a strong smell and bitter taste, making them deer resistant!

Our personal favorite, the Black Eyed Susan. This flower comes in colors such as gold, bronze, red or rust, adding just the right amount of Fall to your garden. This beauty is no easy task!  Black eyed Susan’s require moist, well drained soil and full sun to reach up to three feet tall. They also require removal of dead flowers to achieve proper blooming and reach their potential.  If left un-kept, the Susan’s can spread and over grow into other flowers. Therefore, its best to place them as a boarder within the garden. Again, Susan’s are a beautiful flower, but not deer resistant. Calling Deer Solution to service your garden will help keep this flower off the menu.  They are a little high maintenance, and a bit on the Diva side, but a definite site for sore eyes!

These three flowers are sure to add a splash of Fall to any garden. A little splash goes a long way!  Protect your Fall garden and new plantings from pest such as deer, by calling Deer Solution today!  Ask about our all natural deer repellent services.
